Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchairs

Yoo hoo! We have recycled 2 tonnes of bread tags since we started recycling in Australia in February 2019. That’s a lot of pesky little tags (about 5.4 million of them) saved from landfill. Well done to everyone who is doing their bit to make it happen! ♻️🎖💚

Steven is the 7th recipient of a wheelchair funded by Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchairs. He is a stroke victim living in Philippi in the Western Cape, South Africa. His wheelchair was organised through the the Philippi Economic Development Initiative, who promote economic and social renewal in the area.

We have just received the photo of our latest wheelchair recipient. Her name is Elisna and she lives in residential care in Vredendal in South Africa, which is about 350km north of Cape Town. She was very excited when she saw her chair after a long wait for one. Keep those bread tags coming!

Some good news we could all do with right now …..
Our latest South African wheelchair recipient is Antoni. Antoni required a specialised wheelchair and his Mum and her community collected large amounts of plastic for recycling in order to supplement our contribution. We hope the wheelchair will make their family’s life a little easier, especially at this difficult time.

The Bottle Kids in Prestons came up with a novel way to pick up tags from their local McDonald’s while the coronavirus is a risk. Great to see such initiative in bread tag handover! Please do keep collecting your tags for us, even if you are not able to get them to your collection point right now. And if you do receive any tags, put them aside for several days before handling them, just in case. If you’d like to post your tags to us, the address is PO Box 1164, Kensington Gardens, SA 5068. You can even pay postage and print Auspost labels online so you don’t need to wait in the post office.

Amazing to see what The Bottle Kids in Prestons NSW have achieved in 6 months – they spread the word and provided collection containers for their community, collecting from 16 families, 9 organisations and at one event. Thanks Colette (their Mum), for enabling this!

Thanks to the amazing Laura Baxter and hubby Jake for bringing this enormous quantity of tags (130kg) from Victoria in their caravan, and for shifting it on a 40 degree day in Adelaide!
